Matthieu Petitjean has been keenly fond of ancient knives and swords, for years. So, after the secondary-school, he entered a special art school, in Lyon. Then, he began studying material and making wrought-iron in the community of "Les Compagnons du Devoir du Tour de France", in Saint-Etienne.
After this, he has been working for five years in Joël Orgiazzi's workshop in Lyon: there, he conceived and made outstanding wrought-iron objects. During his free time, he improved his experience in macking "Damaskus-steel" with Jean-Jacques Astier in Tournon, then he took part in an archeological reproduction of manufacturing the "Wootz steel" with Achim Wirtz and Anne Feuerbach.
Matthieu Petitjean had a three years training period at Pierre Reverdy's workshop in Romans-sur-Isère: the latter is a famous art-master in "Damaskus-steel". Besides, Matthieu Petitjean learned fonding bronze, goldsmith's trade and elaboration of archeological steels.
Since year 2006, he has been setting up his own workshop in Saint-Clair-sur-Galaure, a place full of patrimonial and metallurgical history since the Middle-Ages.
